How To Make Your Own DIY Soap At Home

Posted on Fri, Sep 10, 2021 by Amit Bambral

Making DIY soaps at home is a fairly simple process and it can be fun and satisfying activity or hobby. When it comes to beauty, many store brand products have distinct chemical compounds found in creams, cosmetics and other topical consumer products. Chemicals such as sulphates and parabens are harmful for your skin long term. DIY soaps made with good quality ingredients are generally pure and natural, thus they are a great choice for your skin. You can select the ingredients you want to add to the soap and be creative or experimental with it.

The Tricks Of  Soap Making At Home

Commonly there are distinct approaches to soap making at home such as cold process, hot process, melt and pour, and rebatching. For beginners, the Melt and Pour procedure is a great way to start learning the craft of soap making. All you require is minimum of three ingredients.

1. Soap Base

You don't need to start the procedure of soap making from scratch, you can purchase a pre-made soap base to start your soap making process. Be sure to choose good quality soap bases with ingredients that are rich in coconut milk, goat milk or shea butter. Soap bases can also be in various types including aloe vera, sandalwood, honey, rose, activated charcoal, papaya and many more.

2. Essential Oils

Essentials oils are important to add to your soap base for natural scent and skin benefits. Essentials oils have numerous skin-benefiting characteristics besides offering essence and making you feel rejuvenated. It is recommended to pick pure and natural essential oils such as lavender, sweet orange, lime, or rose to add to your soap base.

3. Natural Ingredients

Adding natural ingredients such as herbs or flowers to your soaps will add a boutique look and feel to them. Some of these ingredients could include dried lemon slices, ground coffee, spices, orange peel, whichever pairing works best with your essential oil and the soap base.

Homemade Soap Making Recipe

Here’s a quick 3 step receipt on how you can make a DIY soap with the melt and pour process:

  1. First step, cut the soap base into small cubes. Using a double boiler, melt the cubes while stirring continuously.
  2. Remove the soap base off the heat.
  3. Add a few drops of any essential oil you may want to use and stir it in with the soap base.
  4. You can now add any other decorative ingredients such as dried flowers, herbs etc.
  5. Lastly, pour the mixture into a silicone mould of your desired shape. Let it set for approximately 7-8 hours in a cool, dry place.

Making natural soap at home is great activity, and a way to ensure your soaps are made all-natural without any of the harmful chemicals that you find in store brand soaps.
