Botanical Name: Citrus Bergamia

Parts Used: Fruit Peel

Extraction Method: Cold Pressed. The rind of the fruit is pressed by a mechanical device powered by centrifugal force until the oil is extracted. As there’s no contact with heat of water throughout the extraction process, our Bergamot Essential Oil retains its full aroma and botanical goodness for your enjoyment.

Origin: Italy

Blends well with: Clary Sage, Geranium, Frankincense, Black Pepper, Jasmine, Orange, Sandalwood, Ylang-ylang, Rosemary, Cypress, Vetiver, Nutmeg, and Mandarin

Aromatic scent: Citrusy with a hint of spice and floral accents, similar to Neroli, medium strength

Color / Consistency: The Bergamot fruit has a citrusy taste like a grapefruit and orange but is trapped in a pear-shaped body. Bergamot Essential Oil may sport a light yellowish green or yellowish brown color.

Caution: if you’ve used Bergamot Essential Oil on your skin, avoid exposing it to the sun. It may also interfere with certain prescription drugs, so check with your physician first before incorporating the Essential Oil in any way.

History of Bergamot Oil

Although the oil's origin is listed as Italy, it is also found in Turkey, South East Asia, Argentina, Brazil, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and the Ivory Coast. Bergamot is named for the city of Bergamo in Italy. The fruit has been produced in the area for centuries and it's said that it was first sold there. Other speculations about the “bergamot” name include a translation involving the Turkish word for “Lord's pear”.

Both the oil and the fruit have been used for centuries by Italians for a variety of reasons.

The bergamot tree is a member of the citrus family and grows to approximately 4 feet in height. The fruit is yellow in color and has a pear-like shape. The shape and look of the fruit are reminiscent of both an orange and a lemon hybrid. The scent of the bergamot oil is popular due to its citrusy undertones. The perfume industry often includes bergamot in perfumes and fragrances because of its unique blend of citrus, spice, and floral. It has a heady fragrance that ranks between a medium and top note, bringing all of the aromas together in a balanced and pleasant fragrance.

As with any essential oil or herbal remedy, there is no guarantee of effectiveness or expected outcome. Bergamot oil has been used for centuries throughout the world and is considered to have many positive benefits. It should not be used in lieu of traditional medical treatment. It is also essential that if you have any questions or concerns about its use, benefits, or possible side effects, that you contact a healthcare professional who is familiar with its use.
